Section 4 Investigating and making (1) [Storyboard]
Objective to try out tools and techniques and apply these to materials and processes

Activities
        Agree a subject for a 'news story'
        Groups act out scenes from the story
        each group to plan a storyboard showing a number of key moments from the story
        Develop a series of three or four black and white images.
        Write captions that capture the main idea of each image. [TITLING]

Outcome
        create a storyboard for an event

Read pages 20 and 21 on Storyboarding in the PLANNING STAGE
and pages 45-48 on Storyboarding in the EDIT STAGE

In your groups:  
  • Split a page into 2 vertical halves; [or use our blank Storyboard word document]  
  • on one side write out the text/script  
  • on the other describe the action  
  • Write a plan for every scene

    Draw up a storyboard for the video and provide the following information  
  • the opening type of camera shot  
  • movement direction and action of the actors and camera  
  • what is wanted for the last frame of the shot
          [important for linking to the next shot]

    This unit [2a Picture this] may also be used in conjunction with any other that requires to plan a video using storyboards. such as work on storytelling and speaking for different audiences in year 4, term 1 of the framework for planning in Teaching speaking and listening in key stages 1 and 2 (QCA/99/391).
    Link with English by writing stories and poems based on their art work. Links with the National Literacy Strategy: Framework for teaching, years 1 and 2, where children learn about stories

    Here the storyboard is complete with suggested imagery for the 8 lines of the poem. Sick Rose
